WOULD You Go to Mozambique If You COULD?

20160125_055450Let me ask you a question… if you were given the opportunity to spend 10 weeks in one country anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go? Italy? England? Spain?

What about Mozambique?

That question isn’t a hypothetical one for Dave and Chris Carlson. Because that’s exactly what they did last Fall… going on a 10-week-long mission trip to the southeastern part of the African continent.

What was especially awesome about this is they literally could not have done it 10 years ago. I am guessing most folks reading this blog probably WOULD not want to spend 10-weeks in a third-world country. But Dave and Chris COULD not have done it.

Because 10 years ago Chris was right in the middle of her 15-year long battle against something known as Trigeminal Neuralgia. You don’t need to know how to pronounce it. Just know it is nicknamed the “suicide disease” because the nerve pain is so unbearable that those with the condition often choose to end their lives because they can’t take the pain anymore.

A decade ago Chris joined my wife Kellie’s small group. Or should I say she “attempted” to join Kellie’s small group. The pain Chris experienced kept her from attending more often than not. The rest of the time Chris was basically a shut-in, unable to leave the house, unable to do pretty much anything you have already done today by the time you are reading this blog.

So back then I only knew of Chris through what Kellie told me, how there was this very sick woman with a disease I could not pronounce who rarely attended her small group.

Fast forward to 2012. After multiple brain surgeries and medications that, at best, reduced her level of pain, Chris was supernaturally healed by God. Yes, what you read about in the Bible still happens today! But that only makes sense because “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8). So what Jesus did back when He walked the earth, He still does today.

Dave and Chris will admit they didn’t have “faith that moved mountains” but they had enough faith to attend a Tuesday Night healing gathering led by Pastor Tim. A guest speaker named Marlene Kleepes was in town from Missouri, a normal everyday person whom God has given the spiritual gift of healing.

Chris had faith the size of a mustard seed that night, just enough faith to go forward to receive prayer… but believing nothing was probably going to happen. And yet when Marlene prayed, a healing took place that brain surgeons from the Mayo Clinic could not bring about.

Less than an hour after receiving prayer from Marlene on that Tuesday night in 2012, Chris had no pain, the first time she had been pain free since 1997.

Chris and Dave literally got their lives back! And they made up for lost time. They quit their jobs and began to say YES to God no matter where that YES led them. Their latest YES led them to spend 10 weeks in Mozambique to help tell people in the “bush” about just how much Jesus loves them.

I don’t know about you, but I tend to be a skeptic. So when I see those dramatic re-enactments of how God healed people on Christian TV stations, I don’t always believe what I am seeing. But  let me say this, if you ever come across the video featuring Chris’s story that was featured on The 700 Club, it’s the real deal. And by the way, if you want to watch it, click HERE.

P.S. The Tuesday Night healing service that Pastor Tim leads takes place at Rochester First Assembly of God at 4435 N. Rochester Rd. in Rochester, Michigan 48306 (about 2 miles north of downtown Rochester). It starts at 7:00pm every Tuesday. And if you go, tell ‘em I sent ya!

***Earth Is Not Our Eternal Home… or Is It? That’s the title of my upcoming sermon. It’s going to focus on the doctrine of the “New Earth” that the Bible talks about (see Rev. 21). We often talk about being in Heaven for eternity, so where does the New Earth come into play? Please join us! January 31. 10:30am. More info at tevchurch.org***
