A week ago I preached a sermon at The Eastside Vineyard Church titled, “Heaven, Hell & Predestination.” Since this is such an important topic I thought I’d take that sermon and turn it into a series of blogs. Here is the final installment…
[Note: if you haven’t read the previous posts of this series yet, start here]
Let me begin by saying thanks for joining me on this journey. I normally don’t write a series of blogs on a single topic. It was a fun experiment. I hope you were blessed by what you read…and challenged…and inspired to think about what you believe and why. My ultimate hope is that God got bigger for you as a result.
I’d like to wrap up this series by offering a couple tangible action steps. So that these 9 blogs don’t just make you think but compel you to act.
1st – Invite Others to the “Party.” With the perspective of predestination and election I have outlined in this series of blogs, you can look every person on the planet in the eye and say: “Jesus died for you” and “God wants to be in a real relationship with you.” You can genuinely mean these statements. Why? Because God Invites Everyone To Be Part of His Kingdom on Earth and In Heaven.
So what is one thing you can do this week…with one person you know…someone stalled out on God or who has given up on church…to encourage them to take a step on their journey of faith.
2nd – Pray For Passion. Pray that God makes you more passionate about sharing your faith. Consider this quote from Finding the Father by Herb Montgomery: “She really liked these particular potato chips…her first and only impulse was to immediately share it with someone else. I’m sure we’ve all experienced this. We experience something really amazing, and the next thing coming out of your mouth is “Hey, you gotta check this out!”
When I read that quote I was convicted big time. I hope you were too. Why are we so quick to share the “good news” about great tasting potato chips…or the new restaurant we ate at last night…or that great movie we just saw…but hesitant to share the “good news” of Jesus with others? Pray that God lights a fire under you. Pray for passion. So that you actually do the 1st action step. And not just once, but as a way of life.
3rd – Dig Deeper. If you enjoyed this series of blogs and want to dig deeper into the topics I covered, here are a few books you may want to purchase:
- Predestination & Free Will: Four Views of Divine Sovereignty & Human Freedom
- Four Views on Divine Providence
- Perspectives on Election: Five Views
Thanks for reading.
***Please join us this morning at The Eastside Vineyard Church. I will be unpacking a fascinating dialogue between the Sadducees and Jesus about marriage at the resurrection in Matthew 22:23-33. Jesus’ rebukes them: “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.” The question is: could the same be said of us? May 5. 10:30am. More info at tevchurch.org***
